So an associate of James O’Keefe takes some videos in Planned Parenthood offices and … they are taken seriously enough that Republicans try to defund Planned Parenthood–they even go so far as to say they will shut down the government to accomplish this. Obviously the Republicans have wanted to do this for a long time. They’re just using the videos as an excuse, but why exactly has this become front page news?
O’Keefe and now this Center for Medical Progress are known for heavily editing their videos. Until there’s actual proof showing that something illegal happened they should be ignored and so far there’s nothing even close to proof.
David Daleiden, the leader of the Center, used to work for Live Action and the Center is funded by Operation Rescue. These are two militant anti-abortion outfits, another reason to doubt the videos. Oh, and:
On May 31, 2009, Tiller was assassinated in his church. Scott Roeder of Merriam, KS was convicted of first degree murder in the shooting. Operation Rescue denounced Tiller’s murder in numerous statements, describing it as “cowardly” and “antithetical to what we believe”. The group also said that Roeder had “never been a member, contributor, or volunteer with Operation Rescue.” Roeder responded to Newman’s charges by declaring, “Well, my gosh. I’ve got probably a thousand dollars worth of receipts, at least, from the money I’ve donated to him.”
The phone number for Operation Rescue’s senior policy advisor, Cheryl Sullenger, was found on the dashboard of Scott Roeder’s car. At first Sullenger, who was convicted for conspiring to blow up a California abortion clinic in 1988, denied any contact with him, saying that her phone number is freely available online. Then, she revised her statements, indicating that she informed Scott Roeder of where Dr Tiller would be at specific times:
“He would call and say, ‘When does court start? When’s the next hearing?'” Sullenger said. “I was polite enough to give him the information. I had no reason not to. Who knew? Who knew, you know what I mean?”
So, Operation Rescue is a borderline terrorist outfit.
Also, if you look here you see that a third of abortions occur in the first 6 weeks (at 6 weeks, the fetus is one quarter of an inch long) and 89% occur in the first 12 weeks. If you look here you get this:
Fetal tissue donation takes place at Planned Parenthood clinics in only three states and only with the consent of patients. The tissue is used by research groups to study medical conditions including Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, brain tumors and spinal cord injuries. Neither the clinics nor the patients benefit financially.
The Senate measure was a rush to judgment based on cryptic undercover videos. Unsurprisingly, it was largely supported by senators who already opposed Planned Parenthood because it provides abortions.
Such research was instrumental, for example, in developing the polio vaccine in the 1950s. Other vaccines, including those for rubella and chickenpox, also were developed using human cells, some of which were obtained from legal abortions in the 1960s.
In his testimony to a congressional panel in 2009, Dr. Samuel M. Cohen of the University of Nebraska said that researchers there were using fetal cells to better understand how Alzheimer’s and dementia related to AIDS have developed.
2009: pregnancy rate–102.1; live birth rate–66.2; abortion rate–18.5; fetal loss rate–17.4
In absolute terms this meant there were about 6.4 million pregnancies, 4.1 million live births, 1.15 million abortions, and 1.1 million fetal losses in 2009.
with the rate of abortions decreasing, there will soon be more fetuses who die from miscarriages than from induced abortions.
It seems like a good time to give to Planned Parenthood.
