Republican Priorities?

Looking around, I have come to the conclusion that Republicans are crazy:
- They want to go back to the argument about Terry Schiavo. Public opinion was against them even before she died and an autopsy found that her brain had pretty much liquefied. And they want to go back?
- They’re trying to argue that FDR made the Depression worse. The New Deal did not succeed in ending the Depression and there are arguments about why, but no serious historian believes that he made it worse. Do Republicans really want to campaign against one of the most popular presidents in history?
- They’re pushing to make sure the ‘fairness doctrine’ doesn’t come back. I actually would like to see it back in some form, but very few Democrats in power are trying to bring it back. Will they push to make sure we’re protected against land sharks?
There hasn’t been a vote yet, but I also have a feeling that Republicans will push against the Ledbetter law also, since they filibustered against it in the Senate last year. Republicans like to say that it would be a gift to trial lawyers, but the ruling against Lilly Ledbetter has definitely not been a gift to people who have been discriminated against:
The decision, involving a woman named Lilly M. Ledbetter, who had accused her employer of sex-based pay discrimination, was issued in May 2007. Since then, courts around the country have gone far beyond the facts of that case and cited it as a reason for rejecting lawsuits claiming discrimination based on race, sex, age and disability.
In some cases, after initially ruling for employees, judges have reversed themselves and ruled in favor of employers. The judges said they had to switch because of the Supreme Court decision.
There’s a vote tomorrow on this in the House. I assume it will pass there, the question is in the Senate.
